Impossible Part 1

According to dictionary.com the word impossible means not possible; unable to be, exist, happen.
This is a good word to talk about this time of year.  After all this is the time of the year that we celebrate Christmas.  Most Christians celebrate it as the birth of Christ. By this definition the birth of Christ would be impossible if you are one that believes it was a virgin birth.

I think that we as humans like to label things. Everything has to have a label.
White, black, gay, straight, possible, impossible.  The list could go on forever.
But once you or something gets labeled, it can be hard to shake that label off.
At some point in your life it is probable that you have had this happen to you.  Labels are not fun.
You get a label.  You get stuck in a category and there is no getting out. You are expected to do something a certain way from then on. There is no getting around it unless something drastic happens.
That is something that happens with the word impossible.
Certain things should not be able to happen. Things that are not humanly possible should not be able to happen.  It is a definition, and that cannot be changed.

So, is God limited to this definition?
Do you limit God by this definition?
Is such a thing even possible?
Is the impossible, possible with God?
Here is what Luke 1:26-27 says:
[ 26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.]
As you may know the story continues and Mary, the virgin, is told that she is going to be pregnant with Jesus, the son of God.

If you like to question things then reading this will make you ask some.
But is this possible? Is it possible for there to be a virgin birth?
Can you even trust the historicity of the bible? Has it been translated accurately to where we can trust a couple passages saying Jesus was born of a virgin?
I believe this is a spot where you have to make a decision.
You have to ask yourself if the impossible is possible with God.
For Christians the person that everything is based upon is Jesus. Everything about Jesus is impossible.
He was born of a virgin. He never sinned. He was fully man and fully God.  After dying he was resurrected. All of those things are impossible. And all of those things are what the Bible says about Jesus.

For that reason you have to ask yourself if you believe the impossible is possible with God.
If you believe that it is, does your life reflect that fact? Or do you believe it in word only?
Or does none of this really matter? The impossible is not possible.  God doesn't exist.
I believe it is either one or the other.  Which side of the fence do you sit on?

  1. I believe anything is possible, but how would my life reflect that?
